''Smart Money'' is a 1931 American pre-Code drama film produced and distributed by Warner Bros., directed by Alfred E. Green, and starring Edward G. Robinson and James Cagney. It is the only occasion Robinson and Cagney appeared in a film together, despite being the two leading actors, mainly portraying gangsters, at Warner Bros. studios throughout the 1930s. ''Smart Money'' was shot after Robinson's signature film '' Little Caesar'' had been released and during the filming of Cagney's breakthrough masterpiece ''The Public Enemy'', which is how Cagney came to play a supporting role. The supporting cast includes Evalyn Knapp, Margaret Livingston (the "Woman from the City" in F. W. Murnau's 1927 '' Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans''), and an unbilled but prominently featured Boris Karloff, who portrayed the monster in ''Frankenstein'' later the same year. ''Smart Money'' is a BBC film made in 1986 which was written by Matthew Jacobs and directed by Bernard Rose. It stars Spencer Leigh, Bruce Payne and Richard Borthwick. Plot The film is a thriller about computer fraud. Leon, a computer hacker, and Freak, a programmer, team up with Fast Eddie, a video games expert, to get revenge on Lawrence McNeice ("a hired hand for" several corporations), who framed Leon for a computer fraud he didn't commit. Lawrence McNiece is the head of computer security in a large corporation. Leon is a computer hacker, imprisoned for a fraud. The story implies that McNiece was involved in some way, although it is not made clear exactly why Leon wants revenge on him. When Leon was sentenced to prison the shock caused his dad to have a heart attack. Leon looks for revenge for his father's death and whatever events transpired to put Leon away in the first place. Smart Money was launched in December 2000, in cooperation with 1st eBank (now BDO Universal Bank) and Mastercard. It is the world’s first card linked to a wireless phone and was marketed by Smart Communications as one of the biggest innovations in finance.
